LOL stands for Love Of Learning and this website was created to support homeschoolers in and around Western New York. The LOL Homeschool Group was established in July of 2008 and offers an active e-mail loop along with field trips, holiday parties, Mom's Night Out, family gatherings, and much more!

Upcoming Field Trips


The Aquarium
of Niagara
  • Date: Monday, February 23
  • Time: 2-4pm
  • Cost: $3 for children and $5 for adults.
  • Notes: The sea lion show is at 2:30 and we will do the Touch Tank at 3pm. Please bring 1 dozen of your favorite cookies (or a healthy snack!) to share afterward.


Ferguson Planetarium - The Night Sky

  • Date: Wednesday, March 4
  • Time: 10:00 am to 11:00 am
  • Location: Ferguson Planetarium at Buffalo State College located in the Science Building #115 (Basement Level)
  • Cost: $3.00/person ( Helen will be collecting the money the day of the event.)
  • RSVP: to Helen Rowlands ASAP
  • Program: Viewing the stars, constellations, moon, planets, and their moons in the night sky of the seasons. Comparing surfaces of the planets as seen from close up. Please keep in mind that this presentation will have periods of darkness but they are willing to work with us if this is a significant problem. The program is presented by staff or college students with a background in astronomy.
  • Notes: Parking permits will be available on a limited basis (See Helen). Parking on campus can be difficult at times, so car pooling is recommended.


Buffalo Museum of Science

  • Date: Friday, March 27
  • Time: 2:00 PM until ?
  • Cost: $7 for adults, $5 for children over 3, FREE for children under 3

Amherst Museum

  • Date: Monday, April 27
  • Time: 10:00 - 11:00 AM (arrive early, so that we can begin promptly at 10)
  • Location: 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst, NY 14228
  • Cost: $2.50 per person, children under 3 are free
  • RSVP to Kelly Leardon - Please e-mail with the number of children and adults who will be attending.
We will be taking an hour long tour of 8 homes and buildings at the Amherst Museum. The tour will teach children about 19th century life on the Niagara frontier - a one room school house, church, homes without electricity or plumbing, etc.

Some additional notes: The grounds do not accommodate strollers. We will be walking outside between buildings so please dress for the weather. It is very important to arrive a few minutes early so that we can begin the tour promptly at 10am. Hope to see you there!

Park Day #1


  • Date: Friday, May 8
  • Time: 10 am to 12pm
  • Location: Day Road Park on Ernest/Day Road in Lockport (off Lincoln)
  • Cost: FREE
  • Notes: The Lockportians will host the first park day. Please bring a sack lunch.
